I sprang onto the “scene” with back-to-back slalom wins, Jan. ’67. It wasn’t so much winning the ski race as it was the, “margin o victory”! For example:
1. two second victory/Franconia Slalom 1969
2. three second win Eastern Champs. 1971
3. four second win/Franconia Slalom 1967
(my “boards” were magical: Vr17/Dynamic/seen in photo; same as J. C. Killy)
I mastered the carve o the turn at a young age, coupled with the very rare, “advanced physique”, second nature to win. (What the hell is the “advanced physique”? You may ask? Well? Kind’a like “bionic”.)
Then there was the “Weidner Memorial”! 8 seconds
Me + Killy crossed paths on the wind swept slopes o Cannon Mt. in March @ the first ever “world Cup” race on the North American Continent. Casting furtive glances (why wasn’t I in school) across the 28 passenger tramcar, cheating our way to the starting gate, for another training run. (only “cheats” ride ski lifts) As long as you ride ski lifts “ski racing” is a rich man’s sport, cheating yourself + cheating nature! Got that Mikki? Lindsey?
